It is inside the trees, and this means easy critter access. To keep them outside, we carry your rubbish away and make sure your food is stored adequately. They are food for the birds. If you love the birds, please tolerate their food supply. We empty the house of spiders daily but we do not poison. The spiders come back at will. They are small, and stay in the corners.

They leave evidence of their visit in the form of webs. We do our best to be inhospitable to them, but they persist. The house is tight - the weather does not enter if the doors and windows are closed. But the sounds can be formidable. You will feel close to nature. There is no oven, but there is a microwave.

There is a hotplate. There is no dishwasher. To create full on gourmet meals in the little kitchen is a challenge that no amount of special cookware can address. The storage space is inadequate for more than a couple of days worth of food supplies.

We are in the process of revamping this cooking experience to something a little more treehouse- like, a better fit with the off grid experience. So by the time you arrive, it will be different than it is today. The price point for the treehouse rental is as it is in part because of the hot tub requirements. The neighborhood is part undeveloped rainforest and part lots with houses. There are no tract homes - every house is individually designed and built. There are no street lights so at night it is very dark.

The forest tends to obscure moonlight. There is a hula halau that practices nearby some afternoons, and you can hear their Hawaiian music and chants late in the day. Amazing and completely unique place to stay! Such a cozy place to enjoy with someone special. The hot tub (Japanese style soaking tub) was the perfect place to relax and recuperate after a day of hiking through the nearby Volcanos National Park.

If you have never had that chance to have an outdoor shower, you must try it! It is such a great feeling to have a hot shower in a tropical misty rainforest early in the morning. The mini- kitchen area provided enough space for simple meals for breakfast and dinner. They were easily reachable when if we had any questions about the quirks of the treehouse or needed advice on where to go nearby for food or fun. The host was great at making sure everything was fixed or cleaned up while we were out enjoying our vacation. Fresh towels, topped- up drinking water, and a piping hot tub were always waiting for us when we got back. Much closer to Hilo than Kona if you have a choice of airports.

Check in here (the cost is just a bit over a volcano tour for two people at various tour companies), and after the 4pm check in look around your playhouse like excited children, then have a relaxing dip in the hot tub. It's about 1. 0 minutes to the Jaggar museum parking, and you want to get there at dusk while there is still light to shoot the lava glow AND surrounding landscape. Take in the excellent museum, then head home for another soak. One could sit on that deck and feel so relaxed, all day. This is one of those places where if at all possible, you just have to spend the money and stay here because it is such a memorable and special place!

The treehouse was as beautiful as it is in the pictures. Very nicely decorated, very good vibes. I could live in that treehouse full time! Definitely a perfect spot for couples to stay in. The host and site manager were responsive, friendly, and let us know about the volcano flow, which just started flowing into the ocean while we were there.
